Shopping for shoes in Leon

I am finding the cold very off putting, distracting and discouraging.  I bought some new shoes today to help ward off the cold, as I had only brought sandals with me for the "hot Spanish summer". A friend told me that this is not usual at all for spain in May. . . So ... it was hard to have known it'd be this cold. Not being able to find any second hand shops in Leon I bought new shoes, the cheapest I could find were  €39 - they had to be "hombres zapatos" because none of the shops I'd asked at had shoes my size in womens. The shop lady was quite worried (partly due to my limited Spanish) that I didn't know what I was doing - ie buying men's sand shoes.  Isn't it interesting - the stigma society puts with that? :-) To me they're shoes,  they're warm and comfortable,  they even look nice. People fear stepping out of the norm even when it has purpose and reason.
I'd love a warm jacket but the only ones they have in the stores are thin summer ones- I'm not paying €40 for one of them! ($60 nzd)  For now at least I just keep several top layers on even though they are thin they make a difference.  The only op shop I have found in Spain was in Bcn with Cari, and it had no jerseys or coats at all anyway. They are preparing for summer even though every one is walking around in thick coats, jackets, scarves and boots.  Except in the new clothing shops - the staff are wearing t-shirts and skimpy skirts -cos the air conditioning is full blast summer! !!!
At present I am filling in time because it is too cold outside and Fredy has asked me to meet him after Uni at 9pm at a tapas bar. So for now I am warm and dry at the pilgrims hostel.  When do leave here I have my big backpack to take as well so it is hard to go far happily with that (it's only 13kg ... but catches up on you after a while) Also as I write my phone is charging :-) my connection to family and friends. 
Some women just came in shivering "Esta muy frio!" An they have jackets on. My phone says it's 13*C  He he he he . . . I just came back from the bathroom and a lady was drying her hair under the hand blow dryer! :-) The ingenuity of a Pilgrim travelling light :-)
